Tra Su Melaleuca forest, An Giang
This is one of the largest and most beautiful Melaleuca forests in the West, about 20 km from Chau Doc. The flooded forest is covered with immense green by the branches and leaves above and the carpet under the water surface.
Arriving at Tra Su at about 7am – 9am, visitors can see many species of birds looking for food, gathering throughout the forest, even flying close to people. If you come from 4pm to 6pm, go up to the high observatory to watch flocks of birds descending to their nests in the tall trees.
In addition, the bamboo bridge through the forest will help visitors fully explore the space of Tra Su primeval forest.
Tickets to visit the Melaleuca forest cost 190,000 VND per person because they have to rent a whole boat. If traveling in groups of 7 people or more, the ticket price is 95,000 VND per person.
Mekong Delta specialties
There are many great local specialties that you should not miss while in the Mekong Delta. Up to 70% of the fruit consumed in Vietnam is grown here, so make sure you fill up with as much dragon fruit, grapefruit, coconut juice, mango, jackfruit, mangosteen and durian as you can.
You can even eat the freshest berries from the tree if you visit a local orchard. Some popular ones are Cai, My Khanh and Phong Dien orchards. A tour of the orchard would be of great help to show support for the hard work and origins of these farmers.
